You've come to the only source for made-to-measure butterfly chair covers. Why settle for "one-size-fits-all" covers when you don't have to? When you place your order, your replacement covers will be cut, sewn and shipped on Wednesday, Feb 10 by USPS Priority Mail. Visa, MasterCard, American Express accepted.
Selecting the size of your replacement cover: If your chair folds, order a size A replacement cover; otherwise, measure your non-folding frame as shown. Determine the widest span by measuring from side to side or from the peak of the bends, wherever it is the widest. Call us if you have questions about selecting the correct size, 1-877-247-2250. Open daily 4am to 9pm eastern.

Our service: The popularity of the BKF spawned millions of copies with exotic names such as Siesta Sitting; Africano; Pampeano... and the Butterfly chair. Our four replacement cover sizes fit most of those chairs, including authentic ones. If your frame does not match up to size A,B,C or D, we will create a perfectly-fitting cover just for you. For instance, if your chair measures 32" across the back but only 26" in front, we will combine our patterns to make a D/B cover to fit your frame. If you chair is larger than size D, ask for our custom extra-wide cover at no additional cost.
Our story: The BKF was developed in 1938 by Jorge Ferrari Hardoy along with Antonio Bonet and Juan Kurchan for an apartment building they designed in Buenos Aires. On July 24, 1940, the chair was shown at the 3rd Salon de Artistas Decoradores exhibition where it was discovered by the Museum of Modern Art. At the request of MoMA design director Edgar Kaufmann Jr., Hardoy sent 3 pre-production chairs to New York. One is in the MoMA collection and one is at the Frank Lloyd Wright house Fallingwater, but no one knows where the third chair went. Naming the BKF as one of the "best efforts of modern chair design," Kaufmann accurately predicted that it would become extremely popular here. Likewise, Hans Knoll recognized its commercial potential and added it to the Knoll line in 1947.
US production timeline: Artek Pascoe "BKF Lounge Chair," 1943-46. Knoll "Hardoy chair," 1947-51. Circa50, 1997-present.

Ferrari Hardoy apprenticed under Le Corbusier in Paris just before designing the BKF; Le Corbusier's notions of restraint, economy and efficiency inspired him to use a single length of steel for the frame. The chair became commercially available in the US when Artek Pascoe began producing it, followed by Knoll. In 1997 we resumed production to the exact dimensions of the Pascoe/Knoll version, right down to the 27 degree bend at the top as specified in the Hardoy Archive. Stainless steel and black frames are both historically correct, while stainless steel offers additional benefits: stacks for easy storage; contains 75% recycled steel and is totally recyclable; does not corrode or rust as easily as ordinary steel.
